The Department of Interactive Arts & Media (IAM) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position at the Assistant, Associate, of Full Professor level. The Interactive Arts and Media (IAM) department serves over 325 undergraduate majors, and realizes significant annual growth.

Students in the Interactive Arts & Media department create interactive experiences for participants. Programs are offered in Game Art, Game Design, Game Programming, Game Sound Design, Interaction Design, Interactive Art, and Mobile Media Programming. As creators on the frontier of emerging technologies, students in IAM design smart media and prototype innovative ideas that are shaping how people think, interact and play in contemporary culture. State-of-the-art facilities like our motion capture studio, fabrication lab, and audio production suite give unrivaled access to industry standard tools that help students fully realize creative projects.

Job Summary

We seek candidates who can demonstrate expertise in usability and user experience matched by a vibrant, complementary practice in programming that directly supports user experiences; those who possess a proficiency in interactive media development and user experience design along with the ability and passion to teach in two of the following areas: mobile/game computing, physical computing, web programming or app development.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

The position begins Fall 2013. Tenured and Tenure-track faculty members teach three courses per semester (9 credits), advise students, participate in college and department service and provide scholarly or professional contributions to the field.

 

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a terminal degree in Interactive Media, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science or a related field. Outstanding candidates with masters’ degrees in other related fields, coupled with a track record in applied research, creative practice, or professional experience in the creative industries, will also be considered. Experience in leading teams toward technology innovation using agile development, inter-disciplinary collaboration or cooperative-learning techniques are highly desirable. Ability to teach or coordinate courses in technology for change, serious games or the history, critical analysis and aesthetics of interactive media is an additional plus. It is imperative that applicants demonstrate a strong potential for success in teaching at the college level.
