Job Summary:
Future Plus is the newly created customer publishing agency of Future US and will operate primarily within the market sectors that Future has its strong heritage in e.g. Games, Technology, Entertainment and Music. We create exceptional branded content across multiple channels – magazines, websites, newsletters, mobile communications and direct marketing. In the UK we have grown from $750,000 turnover in 2004 to over $12 Million projection for 2007, and we expect faster growth in the US market.

Responsibilities:
New business development
• Creating editorial content for new business pitches
• Interpreting client briefs from account managers
• Devising appropriate creative solutions, including suggesting magazine formats and paper stock
• Identifying optimal content mix and creating dummy flatplans
• Creating sample editorial content for pitch creatives
• Assisting art editors with realization of creative concepts, including sub-editing, headline-writing etc

Managing editorial pitch process
• Ensuring full and clear client briefs are provided by account managers
• Writing pitch document, including creative rationale and annotations
• Briefing Studio Co-coordinator to provide estimated editorial costs and provisional timeline
• Identifying additional resources needed for concurrent pitches at busy times

Delivering editorial pitches
• Presenting editorial aspects of pitch to clients
• Explaining creative rationale in context of magazine knowledge and experience
• Engaging in diplomatic and productive discussion, advocacy and persuasion

Managing transition from pitch to live project
• Identifying and communicating any changes in creative solution or client need since pitch
• Creating handover document for editorial team
• Working with Managing Editor to ensure first issue meets client requirements

Editorial client development
• Researching potential clients and their customers
• Deep understanding of ‘Brands’
• Creating ‘brand books’ to set out and protect editorial principles of current Future Plus publications
• Assessing opportunities for further work, e.g. online content, upgraded/larger magazines
• Identifying the need for editorial redesign of existing publications

Job Requirements:

• Ability to identify the most appropriate creative solutions (print/online) from client briefs
• Ability to develop print/online projects from concept
• Excellent organizational, communication and inter-personal skills
• High level of creativity
• Ability to work simultaneously on a range of concurrent projects with differing objectives
• Ability to confidently work across any number of sectors in Future’s core markets from technology to crafting, from gaming to movies
• Excellent editorial sensibility and judgment
• Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances
• Knowledge and expertise to devise creative solutions for clients
• Knowledge of magazine craft and principles
• Awareness of commercial pressures and their application to editorial requirements Knowledge of customer publishing and the agency environment
• Research skills
• Previous experience in a variety of magazine/publishing roles
• Experience of launching/redesigning magazines
• Minimum of one year’s work in the customer publishing industry

This role involves being the editorial representative at pitches and presentations, with responsibility for effective and professional communication and advocacy of the proposed creative solution. Excellent personal presentation and confidence at public speaking are therefore essential.
